Cristina - Violist

Cristina Prats-Costa is a passionate and versatile violist. She studied viola at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Yuko Inoue and the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Barcelona under Paul Cortese. Deeply drawn to the expressive range and rich timbre of the viola, Cristina finds particular joy in chamber music and regularly performs with string quartets and various ensembles.

Cristina has performed on viola with acclaimed groups such as Juilliard415, Eybler Quartet, Three Notch’d Road: The Virginia Baroque Ensemble, Trinity Bach Project, and L’Harmonie des Saisons, among others. Her experience spans both historical and modern performance practices, and she brings a refined stylistic awareness to a wide range of repertoire.

She particularly enjoys combining her work on both violin and viola, embracing the unique musical roles each instrument offers—from the lyrical and leading voice of the violin to the warm, supporting depth of the viola. This dual perspective enriches her approach to ensemble playing, allowing her to contribute nuance and flexibility across diverse musical settings.

Cristina continues to explore the sound world of both instruments through collaborative projects, early music ensembles, and contemporary performances, always seeking to connect deeply with audiences through expressive and thoughtful interpretations.
